At least one player from each group will need the app to listen to the sound clues.
Chapter markers are the thicker tiles in your game box with a white border around the image. Each chapter of four images begins with a chapter marker and is followed by three cards.
Each chapter marker and card will trigger a unique sound clue.

Not to worry! If the image is no longer recognised by the app, enter the code found on the back corner of the card. See “How do I use item codes?” below.
Each group plays differently, and that’s part of the fun! That said, our recommendation is to listen to all of the sounds first and identify and similarities. Sometimes a sound clue will be a short, sharp noise; other times it will be part of a continuous noise or conversation. Don’t jump to conclusions until you’ve heard all the sounds!

Don’t forget to use...

…a chapter?
You’re one step closer to solving the case! The entire chapter will play with added sounds, giving you more information about the story. If you scan the chapter marker again in the “Listening” mode of the app, you can listen to the complete chapter again.

…the last chapter?
You’re almost there! Switch the app to “Solve” one last time and see if you can put the chapter tiles in the correct order.

…the whole story?
Congratulations! You’ve solved the mystery! Listen to the epilogue to see how the story ends. You’ll also be able to listen to the entire story from the starting screen of each story—just click “Listen to Complete Story.”

Yes. To simplify the game, click the gear in the upper righthand corner of the main screen. This will take you to a “Settings” screen where you can set the difficulty from “Normal” to “Easy.”
Technically, yes, though the solution will be the same. We recommend gifting or donating the used game and keeping an eye out for more echoes stories in the future!
To play echoes, you will need a device on which you can install and play the app.

Since the app uses the device’s camera, certain minimum requirements need to be met:
• iPhone 6s with iOS 12.0 or better or iPad (2017, 5th generation), iPad Pro with iOS 12.0 or better. A full compatibility list can be found at Apple: www.apple.com/augmented-reality
• Android device with Android 7.0 or better that is compatible with Google Play Services for AR. You can download these from the Play Store if they are not installed on your device.

Not sure? Download the echoes app prior to purchasing or playing the game.
When you start the app, it will check to see if your device is compatible, so you’ll know immediately if you can play with the device or not.
All games are included in the shared echoes app. Search for “Ravensburger echoes” in the App Store or Play Store and download the free app. Select the story you want to play from the main screen.

Questions about technology

Many iPhones and some Android devices have a silencer switch on the side. Make sure your phone is not set to “silent” so the echoes app can play sounds. For better sound, try connecting your phone to a stereo system or Bluetooth speaker.
• Make sure your device meets the app requirements above.
• Make sure your game is in a well-lit area. If your cards or chapter tiles are in shadows or glare, the app may not recognise them.
• If your playing surface is patterned, try placing your cards and chapter markers on a plain surface such as a sheet of paper.
• Hold your phone parallel to the card or chapter marker and move the phone so only the image is fully visible on the screen.
• If your phone tries to scan other cards or objects, hold the phone parallel to the card, close enough so only the image is visible on the screen.
• Install the app on a different device.
• If all else fails, use the codes on the back of each card (see below).

If you’ve tried all of the tips above and your cards still won’t scan, enter the three-letter code on the back corner of the card or chapter marker. Tap on the keyboard symbol in the app to open your device keyboard and enter the corresponding code.
This works for both the “Listening” and “Solving” modes.
No. While you will need a connection to download the app via the Play or Apple stores, you do not need to be connected while playing. For a fully immersive experience, we recommend putting your phone in Airplane mode to avoid distractions and confusing notification chimes with sound clues.

Note: We recommended using a WiFi connection when downloading the app.
The app needs to use your device’s camera to scan the cards and chapter tiles. The app does not record pictures, videos, or sound. The app only compares the camera section with the store graphics of the cards and chapter markers in order to determine which image is present.
As soon as you confirm the correct scan by pressing a button, the camera is turned off and the app will play the sound clue.
